HOME PAGE SPANISH VERSION Cuernavaca Morelos Mexico 16 December 2009.

I am Arturo Guzman, former chapter member auto Morelos in Mexico and I am passionate about the British convertibles, I just finished restoring 100% of a Triumph Spitfire 1500 Model 1975, you can visit my site and see the complete restoration.

This is the story:

In October 2009 I bought a Sunbeam Alpine Series 1 1960 to restore it.

Series1-1.jpgSeries1-2.jpg

The following month, a fellow antique car club chapter Morelos body informed me of a suspension of a Sunbeam Alpine in excellent condition and no rust on sale in Mexico City.

Series 1.jpgSeries 2.jpg

I purchased this second Alpine with the idea of putting together all the pieces of Series 1 in it, for body and suspension were completely rusted, pitted and in disrepair.

The only difference was that the second flat of the tail corresponded to a series 3, 4 or 5, so would cut off the tails at an angle of series 1 for welding on it, but I paused, realizing he had a detail very strange: "The entry of gas is located in the position of series 1 and 2".

series 3.jpgseries 4.jpgseries 5.jpg

I decided to investigate why this detail so rare and found no answer, so I decided to make a video and send it by e-mail to all clubs Sunbeam Alpine in the world for someone with more knowledge help me to identify:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-7wmAqHBVg ( click to see video on youtube)

detail is that only rarely found a reference number engraved on one side of the car but it lacks a number, making it even more strange. The number is B 909008WRO.

Got tickets for the 3 bars on the grille and no logo.

As important fact mentioned that there is no sign of change: solder joints, tuning, or by outside or inside the plate.

I have a tinker with over 35 years of experience and ensures that the car is 100% original.

Here are the answers I received from my colleagues in the world, I ask you read them and give your opinion:

Arthur: In my opinion this is a prototype auto transition from series 1 and 2 to 3, so that makes it unique in the world. My advice is to contact a representative in Mexico for Sunbeam Alpine to certify it and get a notarized letter before you paint for a certificate and have a car unique in the world. pass the data later. Saludos. Greetings.

Hello Arturo

It is known that the typical long-finned tiger was (a truly alpine series III) Maybe some transition prototype developed for the U.S. market or some bodywork, has three plates in the front grill or the alpine logo in the middle?

Greetings intrigued, Raul Rivera, Spain.

Hello Arturo

This car is definitely an Alpine I or II because of the trunk.  I believe someone customized the car by changing the peaked back fenders and changing the gas cap location.  There should be some evidence of the work that they did. You are missing one number but it sounds like a Series 1 produced the week of 27 June - 1 July 1960. You are missing one number but it sounds like a Series 1 produced the week of 27 June - 1 July 1960.

Arturo,

Ok, trunk & gas tank filler is from a Series I or 2, The tail lights are from the Alpine 4 or 5. Looks like someone put a car together from two ?

I'ts not a Series III as that had verticle gas tanks in the trunk.

This looks a modified early Alpine. The rear fenders have been modified by cutting back the original slanted lights to give a more later model year appearance ( ie tail lights vertical) but keeping the longer tail lights.

Suggest going back to the original design of the earlier Alpine. Suggest going back to the original design of the earlier Alpine. Arturo

Thank you for email and photos. Your car does not look like any Alpine we know. Give us some more details and we will try to find out more about it.

Do you have a chassis or engine number? What do you know about the history of the car? Can you send some more photos of the back of the car, and measure the length of the hole for the back lights?
